Good Night From Dad

The last words my kid hears from me every night before e goes to sleep are, "I love you, and I am very proud of you." I try my best to be with em nearly every night when e is ready to go to sleep, so I don't miss this special privilege.

I want my kid to sleep easy and know that no matter what, e is loved and that I am proud of all the good in em. Even when e has disappointed me, I want em to know I am proud of em, and that disappointing me doesn't diminish my love.

Knowing that this simple gesture makes em feel good is reward enough for me, but the rewards go far beyond that. Discipline problems are few and far between, and my kid loves, respects and trusts me. And when e smiles back at me just before going to sleep and says, "Daddy, I love you, too, and I'm very proud of you," it brings a special feeling of joy and pride to me that I will always remember and cherish.
