Bumble Bee Stings Author - A Gardener I enjoy working in my garden, even pulling weeds around my treasured vegetable plants. Pulling weeds can be a somewhat mindless chore, and it's easy to drift off mentally while performing the rote task of pulling, until something grabs my attention again. While pulling weeds from under and around my potato plants, not paying close attention to what was going on around me, I felt a small pricking sensation on one ankle. When I looked, I noticed I had been stung by a bumble bee. The offending bumble bee caught my attention as it flew off. Having never before experienced a bumble bee sting, I found it to be less painful than I had imagined. But I've heard multiple bumble bee stings from an aroused nest or even from a single bumble bee can be quite dangerous. My skin where I had received a single bumble bee sting swelled for about an hour, and then caused very little discomfort. I was lucky, but I'll try to avoid future bumble bee stings. |
