Pussy willow twigs have soft fuzzy buds called catkins. Kids like me think pussy willow buds they are cool.

We had a big pussy willow tree in our yard for a long time, but a bad wind storm blew it partly over. My mom remembered that when she was in school, her teacher brought a bunch of pussy willow twigs once and stood them up in a jar of water. After a few weeks the pussy willow twigs grew roots, and my mom took one of the rooted pussy willow twigs home and planted it in her yard, where it grew into a new pussy willow tree. So when my dad cut our leaning pussy willow tree down, I asked him if I could have all the pussy willow twigs.

I put some of the pussy willow twigs in a vase with water, and I took a bunch of the pussy willow twigs to my school. My class and some other classes put bunches of my pussy willow twigs in jars of water to root, and some of the other kids took rooted pussy willow twigs home to plant after a few weeks, just like my mom had done when she was a kid.

We planted one of my rooted pussy willow twigs in the same place where our big pussy willow tree had been in our yard, and it is now growing into a big pussy willow tree, just like the old one.
